The team behind FalseEyelashes.co.uk ran a 100x layers of false eyelashes experiment following the results of a survey which revealed a growing trend in the number of British women wearing multiple sets of false eyelashes at once.
A video was created to highlight what it looks like to wear 100x sets of false eyelashes – 200 false eyelashes in total – following an increase in the number of British women choosing to wear multiple sets of false eyelashes to dramatise the products effect on eyes.
2,488 British women aged 18 and over, all of whom stated that they like to wear makeup, whether on a regular basis or just for special occasions, were quizzed about their makeup habits.
Initially all respondents were asked ‘What’s your staple makeup item when looking to create a more ‘natural’ look?’ to which the top responses were ‘mascara’ (27%) ‘concealer’ (25%) and ‘lip balm’ (24%). All respondents were then asked ‘What’s your staple makeup item when looking to create a more ‘dramatic’ look?’ to which the top responses were ‘red lipstick’ (29%), ‘liquid eyeliner’ (28%) and ‘false eyelashes’ (22%).
All responses were then asked what type of false eyelashes they preferred, with ‘strip lashes’, (60%), ‘individual lashes’ (24%) and ‘multi-layered lashes’ (10%). As many as one in sixteen respondents (6%) also confessed that their preferred method is to wear multiple layers of false eyelashes.
Women who admitted that they wear more than one set of false eyelashes were asked why, with respondents citing ‘for a more dramatic look’ (43%), ‘to weigh them down so they don’t come off’ (27%) and ‘the ones I purchased were too thin for look I want to create’ (18%). When asked how many pairs they’d wear together at the same time, the average response was four sets.
